MURFREESBORO LAWYER TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED FROM THE PRACTICE OF LAW
Shawn M. Ashcraft, formerly a Murfreesboro attorney, has been temporarily suspended
from the practice of law by the Supreme Court of Tennessee pursuant to their Order of
Temporary Suspension filed May 8, 2002. The Supreme Court suspended Ms. Ashcraft
based upon a petition filed by the Board of Professional Responsibility alleging that the
respondent had misappropriated clientsâ funds and, therefore, posed a substantial threat
of irreparable harm to the public. The Supreme Court of Tennessee issued the temporary
suspension pursuant to Section 4.3 of Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9. The rule
precludes Ms. Ashcraft from accepting any new cases after May 8, 2002, and she is also
precluded from representing existing clients after June 8, 2002, unless the order has been
modified or dissolved by that time. After June 8, 2002, Ms. Ashcraft shall furthermore not
use any indicia of lawyer legal assistant or law clerk, nor maintain a presence where the
practice of law is conducted.
Section 18 of Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9 requires Ms. Ashcraft to notify by
registered or certified mail all clients being represented in pending matters; all co-counsel
and opposing counsel of the Supreme Courtâs order suspending her. Section 18 also
requires Ms. Ashcraft to deliver to all clients any papers or property to which they are
entitled.
This suspension shall remain in effect until it is dissolved or amended by order of the
Supreme Court of Tennessee.
