JOHNSON CITY LAWYER SUSPENDED
On June 12, 2006, the Supreme Court entered an order relative to Harold Wayne Graves,
an attorney licensed to practice law with an office in Johnson City. The Court supended his law
license for 9 months and made the suspension retroactive to nine months before the date of the
Supreme Court order. Since his reinstatement was automatic at the conclusion of nine months,
Mr. Graves can now practice law.
Mr. Graves suffered from a medical problem. This medical condition has been displayed
not only in his law practice, but also in the courtroom. Tennessee Lawyers Assistance Program
(TLAP) has assisted Respondent and Mr. Graves has faithfully complied with TLAPâs
requirements. The complaints that caused the suspension involved neglect and lack of
communication due to his medical condition.
The Court found that Mr. Graves violated DR 1-102(A)(1)(4) and (5), 6-101(A), and
7-101(A) of the Attorney's Code of Professional Responsibility, as well as, RPC 1.1., 1.3, 1.4,
and 8.4(d) of the Attorneyâs Rules of Professional Conduct. These violations were mitigated by
Mr. Gravesâ compliance with TLAP.
