The above complaints were filed against Carl Allen Roberts, Jr., BPR No. 033509, an

attorney licensed to practice law in Tennessee, alleging certain acts of misconduct. Pursuant to

Tenn. Sup. Ct. R. 9, the Board of Professional Responsibility considered these matters at its

meeting on June 13, 2025.

Mr. Roberts represented a client in a divorce which was completed. Mr. Roberts informed

the client in writing that he would file a petition for contempt against the opposing party. Mr.

Roberts then failed to respond to eight communications from the client. In another matter, Mr.

Roberts received a cash retainer from a client, and he took the cash to his home for 39 days before

returning it to the firm’s trust account. In another matter, Mr. Roberts failed to appear at a

scheduled mediation without notice to his client, the mediator, or the opposing counsel.

By the aforementioned acts, Carl Allen Roberts, Jr. has violated Rules of Professional

Conduct 1.3 (diligence), 1.4 (communication), 1.15 (safekeeping funds), 1.16 (termination of

representation), 3.2 (expediting litigation), and 8.4(dg) (prejudice to the administration of justice)

and is hereby Publicly Censured for these violations.
