MEMPHIS LAWYER SUSPENDED
On May 23, 2008, Melvin G. Turner of Memphis, Tennessee, was suspended by the Tennessee Supreme
Court for a period of six (6) months, retroactive to December 23, 2007, pursuant to Rule 9, Section 4.2, of the
Rules of the Supreme Court.
The Board of Professional Responsibility filed a Petition for Discipline against Mr. Turner pursuant to
Rule 9 of the Rules of the Supreme Court of Tennessee. A Hearing Panel heard the matter and issued a six (6)
month suspension which was adopted by the Supreme Court. Mr. Turner violated the Rules of Professional
Conduct by failing to remove any indicia of lawyer, counselor at law, legal assistant, law clerk or similar title
from his checks and failing to safeguard or destroy trust account checks after he was suspended. His actions
violate Rule of Professional Conduct Rule 8.4(a)(d) and (g) (Misconduct). Mr. Turner is further ordered to pay
the costs of the disciplinary proceedings.
For these violations, the Supreme Court of Tennessee suspends Melvin G. Turner for six (6) months
retroactive to December 23, 2007.
