BOARD OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY

March 31, 2023
DAVIDSON COUNTY LAWYER CENSURED

On March 30, 2023, Melissa June Anderson, an attorney licensed to practice law in Tennessee, received
a Public Censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court.
Ms. Anderson failed to make reasonable efforts to ensure that the firm had in effect measures giving
reasonable assurance that all lawyers in the firm conform to the Rules of Professional Conduct. Ms. Anderson
knew of the conduct at a time when its consequences could have been avoided or mitigated, but failed to take
reasonable remedial action and failed to provide training and oversight.
Also, Ms. Anderson failed to take reasonable steps to protect the client’s interests in withdrawing from
representation.
By these acts, Ms. Anderson has violated Rules of Professional Conduct 5.1 (responsibilities of partners,
managers and supervisory lawyers) and 1.16 (declining or terminating representation), and is hereby Publicly
Censured for these violations.
A Public Censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not affect the attorney’s ability to
practice law.
