MEMPHIS LAWYER SUSPENDED

On June 19, 2006, the Tennessee Supreme Court temporarily suspended the
law license of William Anthony Helm, a Memphis attorney, pursuant to Section 4.3 of
Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 9. The Board of Professional Responsibility had
petitioned the Court to temporarily suspend Helm’s law license because of Helm’s
failure to respond to several complaints of ethical misconduct and because of the
Board’s concern that Helm posed a substantial threat of irreparable harm to the public
due to his abandonment of his law practice and his clients in the late winter and spring
of this year.

Pursuant to Rule 9, Section 4.3, Helm cannot accept new clients or undertake
any new representation. He may represent existing clients for 30 days, after which he
cannot represent them. The Supreme Court further ordered that Helm is required to
deposit within his escrow account all attorney fees tendered to him within the first 30
days after issuance of the temporary suspension order, and is prohibited from making
any withdrawals therefrom except upon signed authorization provided to him by
Disciplinary Counsel. Helm may file an application with the Tennessee Supreme Court
requesting a dissolution or modification of the temporary suspension order. If he makes
such an application, a hearing to consider whether the suspension should be continued,
modified or dissolved will be conducted before a panel consisting of two members of the
Board and one Hearing Committee member from Shelby County.
