PUBLIC CENSURE
The above complaint was ï¬ied against Melanie Ann CmnpbellmBrown, an attorney
licensed to practice law in Tennessee, alleging certain acts of misconduct. Pursuant to Supreme
Court Rule 9, the Board of Professional Responsibility considered these matters at its meeting on
September 9, 2.011.
Respondent moxie numerous distributions from the ï¬lmâs operating aooount to sixteen
firm clients for reasons other than cowl; cost and expenses of litigation, including rent, electric
bills, auto payments, bond, and child support, in anticipation of being reimbursed ï¬our
recoveries in the clientsâ personal injury cases. Payments made to ten cliente were not
reimbursed and were written off as uncoileotible ease expenses. One payment in the amount of
$900 was drawn on the timeâs trust account. The Respondeut notarized the signatures of three
clients when the documents were not signed in the Respondentâs presence.
By the aforementioned facts, Melanie Ann CowbellâBrown has violated Rules of
Professional Conduct 1.3(e) (eonfiiot of interest, prohibited transactions), 1.1503) (eafekeeping
property) and 8.40:) (misconduct) and is hereby Publicly Censored for these violations.
