MCNAIRY COUNTY LAWYER CENSURED

On January 13, 2022, Brian Jackson Petty, an attorney licensed to practice law in Tennessee, received a
Public Censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court.

Mr. Petty was appointed to represent an indigent client in a dependent and neglect matter in Juvenile
Court. Mr. Petty created a conflict of interest by sending text messages that were sexual in nature to his client.
There was a significant risk that Mr. Petty’s personal interests materially limited his representation of his client.

By these acts, Mr. Petty has violated Rule of Professional Conduct 1.7(a)(2) (concurrent conflict of
interest), and is hereby Publicly Censured for this violation.

A Public Censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not affect the attorney’s ability to
practice law.
