SHELBY COUNTY LAWYER CENSURED

On July 10, 2026, Victoria Williamson Gillard, an attorney licensed to practice law in Tennessee, received
a Public Censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court.
Ms. Gillard was representing a client in a wrongful death case. The parties reached a settlement, and Ms.
Gillard deposited the settlement money in her Trust Account in December of 2019. Ms. Gillard indicated she had
some concerns about her client’s mental health and therefore did not provide her client with the settlement funds.
For years Ms. Gillard held the money in her Trust Account without taking any action. Finally, on August 18,
2025, Ms. Gillard filed a Petition for Interpleader. On October 16, 2025, the Court filed an Order directing Ms.
Gillard to release the money held in her Trust Account to the Madison County Clerk and Master. On October 18,
2025, Mr. Gillard released the required funds to the Madison County Chancery Court. Ms. Gillard also failed to
communicate with her client over the time period she held the money in her Trust Account.
By these acts, Ms. Gillard has violated Rules of Professional Conduct 1.1 (competence), 1.3 (diligence),
1.4 (communication), 1.15 (safekeeping property and funds), and 8.4 (misconduct) and is hereby Publicly
Censured for these violations.
A Public Censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not affect the attorney’s ability to
practice law.
