MARYVILLE LAWYER CENSURED BY SUPREME COURT
By Order of the Tennessee Supreme Court entered July 24, 2006, Charles M. Clifford, a
Maryville attorney, was publicly censured. Mr. Clifford was served with a Petition for
Discipline on February 27, 2006. Mr. Clifford entered into a Conditional Plea of Guilty to
resolve the said Petition for Discipline on May 26, 2006. The terms of the Conditional Plea of
Guilty were approved by the Board of Professional Responsibility on June 16, 2006. Mr.
Clifford admitted his guilt of failing to timely file an appellate brief, which neglect lead to the
dismissal of his clientâs appeal, in violation of Rules of Professional Conduct 1.3 and 3.2, and of
failing to respond to Disciplinary Counsel when requested to do so in violation of Rule of
Professional Conduct 8.1(b). Pursuant to the Conditional Plea of Guilty, Mr. Clifford agreed to
