KNOX COUNTY LAWYER CENSURED
On July 18, 2023, Charles Scott Justice, an attorney licensed to practice law in Tennessee, received a
Public Censure from the Board of Professional Responsibility of the Tennessee Supreme Court.
In March 2020, Mr. Justice filed a lawsuit for a client arising from the alleged faulty construction of a
deck at the clientâs residence. The trial date was continued several times and then taken off the courtâs active
docket in April 2021. The client contacted Mr. Justice about the status of the matter in June, September and
October 2021, with no substantive response. Mr. Justice sent an email to the client in March 2022 stating that he
wanted to withdraw from the matter, but the client did not receive the email. Mr. Justice did not move to withdraw
from the case and took no further action.
By these acts, Mr. Justice has violated Rules of Professional Conduct 1.16 (termination of representation),
3.2 (expediting litigation), 1.3 (diligence), 1.4 (communication) and 8.4(d) (prejudice to the administration of
justice) and is hereby Publicly Censured for these violations.
A Public Censure is a rebuke and warning to the attorney, but it does not affect the attorneyâs ability to
practice law.
