OF THE
BOARD OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
OF THE
SUPREME COURT OF TENNESSEE
IN RE: AL H. THOMAS, BPR NO. 8846 FILE NO. 53411-9-SC
Respondent, an attorney licensed
to practice law in Tennessee
(Shelby County)
PUBLIC CENSURE
The above complaint was ï¬led against Al H. Thomas, #8846, an attorney licensed to
practice law in Tennessee, alleging certain acts of misconduct. Pursuant to Tenn. Sup. Ct. R. 9,
the Board of Professional Responsibility considered these matters at its meeting on December 8,
2017.
Mr. Thomas was surety for the payment of court costs in a civil action. When the court
costs remained unpaid after the dismissal of the clientâs lawsuit, the Court entered an order
requiring Mr. Thomas to appear and show cause, if any, why judgment should not be entered
against him for payment of the costs. Mr. Thomas failed to appear before the Court or provide
notice that he was unable to appear.
By these acts, A1 H. Thomas has violated Rules of Professional Conduct 3.4(0) (knowing
disobedience of an obligation under rules of a tribunal), and 8.4(d) (conduct prejudicial to the
administration ofjustice), and is hereby Publicly Censured for these violations.
