CHATTANOOGA LAWYER CENSURED
John Cris Helton, a Chattanooga attorney, was publicly censured by the Board of
Professional Responsibility on October 20, 2003, for failing to deposit a retainer fee which was to
be billed against at an hourly rate into his trust account until earned.
Mr. Helton's conduct was in violation of DR 9-102(A) of the Code of Professional
Responsibility.
A Public Censure is a form of public discipline which declares the conduct of the lawyer
improper, but does not limit the lawyer's right to practice law.
