Reinstated from Disability Inactive Status but Suspended for thirty-four (34) months by order
entered November 21, 1988, retroactive to March 4, 1986 and continued to January 2, 1989. In
the first matter, Smith neglected a bankruptcy case and failed to communicate adequately with
his client. In the second, he neglected a collection case for his client. In the third, he neglected a
Social Security disability claim and failed to timely file a personal injury lawsuit for which his
client won a legal malpractice suit against Smith. He also failed to adequately communicate with
two criminal clients, was negligent in a civil action and failed to communicate with his client or
opposing counsel, and failed to appear at a hearing for his client.
