IN DISCIPLINARY DISTRICT IX
OF THE
BOARD OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY
OF THE
SUPREME COURT OF TENNESSEE

IN RE: Patrick E. Stegall, #024728 FILE NO. 71032-9-SC
Respondent, an attorney licensed
to practice law in Tennessee
(Shelby County)

______________________________________________________________________________

PUBLIC CENSURE
______________________________________________________________________________

The above complaint was filed against Patrick E. Stegall, #024728, an attorney licensed to

practice law in Tennessee, alleging certain acts of misconduct. Pursuant to Tenn. Sup. Ct. R. 9,

the Board of Professional Responsibility considered these matters at its meeting on December 9,

2022.

Mr. Stegall represented a client in defense of criminal charges. After appealing his client’s

conviction, Mr. Stegall failed to file the trial court transcript as required by applicable rules of

court or file a motion for an extension of the filing deadline. A show cause proceeding was

initiated because of Mr. Stegall’s conduct, which resulted in an order finding Mr. Stegall in

contempt.

By these acts, Patrick E. Stegall has violated Rules of Professional Conduct 1.3 (diligence),

3.2 (expediting litigation), and 3.4(c)(knowing violation of an obligation under the rules of a

tribunal) and is hereby Publicly Censured for these violations.
