JOHNSON CITY ATTORNEY CENSURED
On April 2, 2007, the BOPR issued a Public Censure as to attorney Lewis A. Holt, who
practices law in Johnson City, Tennessee. Mr. Holt was retained in a lawsuit regarding a mobile
home. His client a month later started trying to call him, but has not had any phone calls
returned. She ultimately talked to his assistant who told her that Mr. Holt had been ill and had
been going through a divorce. The assistant offered to transfer her case to a new attorney, but
the client heard nothing more from either the assistant or Mr. Holt. Mr. Holt has closed his
office now and the client has been unable to obtain the return of an original contract that is vital
to her lawsuit. Mr. Holt has done nothing else in the case nor has he refunded the fee. Mr. Holt
was thereby found to have violated RPC 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, and 1.16 of the Tennessee Rules of
Professional Conduct.
This censure was issued pursuant to Rule 9, Rules of the Supreme Court of Tennessee.
Mr. Holt did not request a hearing. The censure does not prevent Mr. Holt from continuing to
practice law.
